Home Grown Mushrooms

Over the years I have had mixed success in growing mushrooms.

From the “box” drying out to the mycelium culture turning – yet home grown mushrooms are something I really enjoy watching. (And eating). The texture is so much nicer, and the smell of fresh mushrooms is second to nothing.

On Saturday prior to Christmas at the Willunga Farmers Market I purchased a kit in hope of motivation to once gain grow our own mushrooms.

We decided to try something very different and placed it in a very ordinary plastic container with a cup of water and a lid to create a humid environment.

Success within 4 days our little bag was shooting and first flush reaping 0.5kg of mushrooms.

Interesting though I did think we had purchased brown oyster but these look more like a coral with a few oysters thrown in.

Motivation now to inoculate our own again amd grow mushrooms through the complete cycle.
